The zone of Cirņ, known since the times of the Magna Grecia for the production of vintage wines, includes Cirņ, the old village lying on a hill, and Cirņ Marina, the more recent village, facing the Ionian sea. The cantina (wine-production factory) of Fattoria San Francesco stands in a locatity called Quattromani, in the municipality of Cirņ, among ancient grapevines and olives, along the old Veduta Cirņ road skirting the Ionian sea. The wines of Fattoria San Francesco, are produced from vines that spread on these pleasant hills, enjoying the slow sea breeze and the hot Calabria sun. Not too far from here (about 60 Km of a road climbing between delightful landscapes) the gentle Sila mountains rise, with their lakes and pine forests. They are an ideal starting point for visitors who want to enjoy the beauty of a region still a bit unknown and in general out of tourist tours. The most interesting trips are those leading to north: for example we can remember Rossano, with its Byzantine church of S. Marco and the famous Codice Purpureo; the Sibari lakes, and, in the surroundings, Corigliano, with a turreted castle; Altomonte, with a very interesting old centre, perfectly kept. Southwards, always on the Ionian side after cape Colonna, the old castle of Le Castella is worthy of a visit, just like the Cattolica of Stilo (a rare example of a Xth century small temple); and at last the cathedral Of Gerace, that represents a real treasure of Norman-Byzantine architecture.
